The Royal Philharmonic Society announced on November 12 that György Kurtág will be awarded one of music's most esteemed honours, the Royal Philharmonic Society Gold Medal.

Kurtág joins an illustrious list of RPS Gold Medallists including Brahms, Elgar, Richard Strauss, Stravinsky, Britten, and Horowitz. Recent recipients include Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Thomas Quasthoff, Henri Dutilleux, and Daniel Barenboim.

Kurtág will receive the Gold Medal at a concert in the Queen Elizabeth Hall on Sunday, December 1.
